A HoneyBook alternative for when the work has costs.
HoneyBook is built around the client flow — enquiry, proposal, invoice. Velosiq does that and then answers the question that follows it: what did this job actually cost, and did the equipment pay for itself?
The businesses that outgrow client-flow software
HoneyBook does one arc extremely well: a lead arrives, a proposal goes out, a contract is signed, an invoice is paid. For a business whose only real input is your own time, that arc is the whole job and there is little reason to look elsewhere. The tools stop fitting at a specific moment — when the work starts having costs against it. Materials, subcontractors, a machine on finance, a second person on the crew. At that point the question changes from "did they pay?" to "did we make anything?", and client-flow software has no answer to the second one.
What each one is built to do
Structural differences only — no prices quoted, because they change. Where a row says HoneyBook does something, it does it well.

Equipment that pays for itself, or does not
This is the capability that has almost no equivalent anywhere in this category. Log a machine with what you paid, attach it to the jobs it works, and Velosiq puts the revenue attributed to it against its full cost of ownership — the purchase price plus every service, repair and tagged expense you have recorded against it. For a business with a van, a trailer or forty thousand dollars of gear, that is the difference between a hunch and a number.
Cost basis, not sticker price
Purchase price plus maintenance logs plus tagged expenses. The repairs usually change the answer.
Attached to real jobs
Book equipment onto the work it does, so attribution follows use rather than a guess.
Warranty and service dates

Where HoneyBook is the better choice
These are real, and if any of them describes you then HoneyBook is the right answer and you should stop reading here.
- — You want recurring or automatic invoicing, autopay, or a card on file. Velosiq has none of these — every invoice is sent deliberately.
- — You are a creative whose work has no material costs and no equipment worth tracking. Most of what Velosiq adds is weight you will not use.
- — You want a large library of polished templates for creative client work. Ours is deliberately plain.
- — You would rather the platform handled payments end to end than connect a Stripe account yourself.
Questions, answered
What people ask when weighing the two.
Is Velosiq cheaper than HoneyBook on payment processing?
Not necessarily, and we are not going to claim otherwise. HoneyBook processes payments itself at a published rate that is competitive with Stripe's own. The difference is structural rather than a percentage: with Velosiq you connect your own Stripe account, so the merchant relationship, the payment history and the payout schedule are yours. Velosiq takes no cut, but you pay Stripe whatever Stripe charges you.
What can Velosiq do that HoneyBook cannot?
Three things, all pointing the same direction. Job costing — running a job as a project with expenses and labour against it, and a live margin. Change orders — recording out-of-scope work with a price and an approval so it gets billed. And equipment ROI — costing a machine against the revenue it earned, from its purchase price plus every maintenance log and tagged expense. HoneyBook is built around the client flow; Velosiq is built around the client flow plus what the work costs you.
Do I lose proposals and e-signatures by switching?
No. Proposals with a typed e-signature are on every Velosiq plan, including the entry one. The client opens a link with no login, types their name to accept, and Velosiq records the name, IP address and timestamp. An accepted proposal converts to an invoice without re-keying the line items.
Is HoneyBook better for me if I am a creative?
Quite possibly. If you are a photographer, planner or designer whose work has no material costs and no equipment worth tracking, most of what Velosiq adds is weight you will not use — and HoneyBook has a longer track record and a bigger template library in exactly that space. The case for switching gets strong when your jobs start having costs against them.
How does pricing compare?
We deliberately do not quote HoneyBook's prices, because they change and a page that quotes them goes quietly wrong. What we will say about the model: Velosiq is flat per plan, with the people included in the plan, and unlimited clients and invoices on every tier. Nothing is metered per contact or per invoice. Our own prices are on the pricing page.
