Understanding your analytics
Analytics in the sidebar opens five tabs: Revenue, Receivables, Profit, Assets ROI and Client Value. Every tab is reachable on every plan; panels belonging to a higher plan show an upgrade card in place, so you can always see what exists rather than wondering whether you have missed a setting.
The one rule behind every number
Velosiq reports revenue on a cash basis: money counts when it is received, not when it is invoiced.
- Revenue = payments recorded, bucketed by payment date
- A $10,000 invoice contributes $0 until money arrives; a $3,000 partial payment counts the day it lands
- Payments on cancelled invoices are excluded, so voided deals never inflate your numbers
- The one exception is the Top Products report, which counts line items on fully paid invoices, because an individual line item cannot be split across partial payments
Cash basis is how most small businesses actually think — "what hit the bank this month?" — and it means your dashboard chart, your analytics and your bank statement tell the same story.
What that means in practice
The consequence worth internalising is that a good month of selling and a good month of revenue are different months. Win a large job in March, invoice it in April, get paid in May, and Velosiq shows the revenue in May. That is correct and it is what you want for cash-flow decisions, but it makes the revenue chart a lagging picture of sales activity.
If you want to see the selling rather than the collecting, the proposal funnel is the forward-looking view, and receivables shows what has been invoiced and is still to arrive. Read together — funnel, receivables, revenue — they are past, present and banked.
The second consequence: a quiet revenue month may be a collection problem rather than a sales problem. Check receivables before concluding anything from a dip.
The five tabs
| Tab | What it answers | Plan |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue | How much am I collecting, from whom, for what? | KPIs on all plans; trends on Business+ |
| Receivables | Who owes me, and how overdue is it? | All plans |
| Profit | Income against expenses — am I actually making money? | Business+ |
| Assets ROI | Has my equipment paid for itself? | Inventory on all; ROI on Business+ |
| Client Value | Which clients matter most, and am I over-concentrated? | Top clients on all plans; growth on Business+ |
The dashboard chart
Your dashboard's Revenue Overview uses the same cash-basis engine — monthly on every plan, with Daily and Weekly breakdowns on Business and Team.
Getting numbers you can trust
Analytics is downstream of your day-to-day habits, and there is no way for a report to be better than its inputs. Record payments on the date the money actually moved rather than the date you keyed it in, cancel invoices that are dead instead of leaving them open, and — for the profit side — record expenses as you incur them.
