Connect Stripe to accept card payments
Stripe powers card payments in Velosiq. Connecting takes a few minutes and is available on every plan.
The important thing to understand up front: it is your Stripe account, not a Velosiq one. Money moves from your client to your Stripe balance and out to your bank on Stripe's normal payout schedule. Velosiq is never in the middle of it, never holds your funds, and cannot delay them.
Why connect
- Charge cards directly from any invoice — see charge a card
- Secure hosted checkout, so a client can pay an invoice themselves — see Stripe checkout for invoices
- Automatic bookkeeping — checkout payments are recorded against the invoice for you, so a paid invoice marks itself paid
Velosiq adds no platform fee and takes no percentage. You pay Stripe's standard card-processing fees and nothing on top. This is a genuine difference from platforms that act as the payment intermediary and add a margin to every transaction, and it is worth checking against whatever you are using today — on a business doing $200,000 a year, a 1% platform margin is $2,000.
How to connect
- Go to Settings → Profile → Payments.
- Click Connect Stripe to accept payments.
- You are taken to Stripe's own secure onboarding — business details, a bank account for payouts, and identity verification. This information goes to Stripe directly; Velosiq never sees your banking details.
- When you finish, Stripe returns you to Velosiq.
Have your business details and bank account to hand before you start. Stripe asks for identity verification because it is a regulated payment processor, and the process is much quicker in one sitting than resumed later.
Connection states
The Payments card in Settings always shows exactly where you stand:
- Not connected — the Connect button is waiting for you
- Onboarding incomplete — Stripe still needs something. Click Finish Stripe setup to pick up where you left off. Card payments stay disabled until Stripe enables charges on the account, so this state is worth clearing promptly rather than discovering mid-job.
- Connected and ready — you are live, and a View Stripe dashboard button gives one-click access to your Stripe account
Note: Stripe onboarding currently supports US-based businesses, and all amounts are in USD.
Managing money in Stripe
Payouts, refunds, disputes and detailed card reporting all live in your Stripe dashboard, and the View Stripe dashboard button takes you straight there.
That split is deliberate and worth knowing: Velosiq is the record of what you invoiced and what was paid; Stripe is the record of the money itself. A refund issued in Stripe is a Stripe event — if it should also change what the invoice says, record it in Velosiq as well, so your reporting and your bank agree.
You do not have to use it
Card payments are optional. If you take cash, cheque or bank transfer, you can record those payments by hand and never connect Stripe at all — everything else in Velosiq works the same.
